Shattered Carols

Carols are supposed to be happy songs,
But why does mine sound like a shattered gong?
I sense her betrayal like a haunting melody.
Her heart seems to dwell on a past harmony.
Why did she opt for someone else's embrace?
When I offered the vows she longed and chased?
What have I done to deserve such dismay?
Was this some sort of punishment for turning away?
I could not understand why she would choose this one,
When in fact I gave her the commitment she wants.
I do not want to be devoured by the pain;
But if I forgive easily, what would I gain?
If she loves the other more than she loves me,
then, Goodbye is all that I can say.
